Cheeseman Transport announces fourth driver pay increase in 18 months

08/03/2015 FORT RECOVERY, OH / GREER, SC Cheeseman Transport has announced its' fourth pay increase in 18 months for its truck drivers. Cheeseman's compensation initiative was prompted by the industry's shortage of qualified truck drivers. This driver pay increase enhances pay for driving, for making deliveries and pickups and the inclusion of minimum pay and reflects an overall increase of 15% for driver compensation. The shortage which began in 2009 has continued and with the recent surge in the economy, the driver shortage has adversely impacted capacity and is inhibiting growth. The numbers for the industry show a national deficit of over 30,000 truck drivers. Details of the most recent compensation change includes a one cent per mile increase on the base mileage pay and a one cent per mile increase for the premium mileage pay zones. Stop pay increased from $10 to $11 and $16 to $20 for all customer deliveries or pick-ups. Load/unload handling pay increased to $1.00 per 1000 pounds. Team mileage pay will be base mileage pay plus 10 cents per mile. Over-Dimensional permitted legs will be paid as base mileage pay plus 8 cents per mile. To top it all off their 401(k) match was increased. In addition to compensation, Cheeseman Transport has restructured operations to where over 50% of its drivers are home daily and we offer choice of work assignment to OTR (over the road), teams, regional and local home daily. Truck driving school graduates are also considered for employment through their apprentice training program.
